Federalism’s faults – States can
obstruct action on national issues.
One possible solution to this problem would be to amend the U.S.
Constitution. However,
this would require ¾ of the states.
Each group will be assigned a Constitutional Amendment,
(13th, 14th, 15th, 19th)
You will need to write a summary of the Amendment
you are assigned and prepare an in class presentation.
Some main points that need to be addressed in your presentation
1. When was the amendment adopted, What were the
circumstances (Time and events/ What was going on at the time that might
have driven the events. (ie.
Emancipation Proclamation.)
2. Discuss the process by which the amendment was
adopted
3. Who
was involved, Were there significant or historical figures involved in
the House/Senate debates etc. or in crafting the amendment
4.
What was the significance of the amendment
(Other questions you might
consider - What impact did these amendments have on Party Leadership in
the Congress, or on Presidential Elections) Radical Republicans,
Reconstruction, Significant Supreme Court Cases.
These are just some of the main points you
should cover. Remember what
you put into it is what you will get out of it.
Also, know that there will be a significant portion of
your next quiz and test that will come from this section of
material. So this means the
better your research the better you will do on the quiz and test.
The research is up to you, I will only be a guide in this
exercise and make sure you do not get off track.
You will be required to turn
in a rough draft that is part of the over all 50 pts.
